Campus volunteers needed for the upcoming Times Festival of Reading on Saturday, Oct. 27.  Volunteers are needed for set up on Friday, Oct. 26 and tear-down on Saturday, Oct. 27 following the event.  Please contact Barry McDowell at 3-4990 or Sudsy Tschiderer at 3-4842.

Open House - The Career Center, Student Disability Services, Volunteer Services and the Academic Success Center will host an open house in the Terrace Building to showcase their new location and the restructuring of the department, Student Achievement.  It's from 2-5 p.m. in TER 200 and 300. Refreshments will be served.

Banned Books Week - The Nelson Poynter Library presents speaker Bob Dardenne, Ph.D., associate professor of journalism and media studies who will discuss Freedom to Think: News, Censorship and Amusement from 11 a.m. - Noon, in library room 234.

Gordon Patterson, Ph.D., director of the Center for Florida Studies at The Florida Institute of Technology will present "Sometimes a Great Notion: The Origins of the American Mosquito Crusade." Cole Chair in Ethics presents Laurence Hougate, professor emeritus at California Polytechnic Institute, who will discuss "Children's Rights" at 6 p.m. in Davis Hall room 217. High School Counselor Breakfast - From 8:30 to 10 a.m. in the CAC. The breakfast honors high school guidance counselors for their hard work throughout the school year in guiding students and for their continued support of the campus. They will participate in an informative program featuring USFSP's Admissions and Records, Financial Aid, Academic Advising and Student Affairs departments as well as the deans of the Colleges of Arts and Sciences, Business and Education. After breakfast, counselors will tour the campus.
 
Travel Training is recommended for all travelers or delegates who will submit authorization or reimbursement requests for travel and for all fiscal managers or supervisors who approve those requests. Two sessions will be offered in DAV 253 from 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. Space is limited. Contact Jennifer Baker at 3-4469 to reserve your spot. The College of Marine Science
celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month by sponsoring two distinguished Latin American oceanographers who will present their research at the Poynter Institute at 2 p.m. A reception will follow.
Daniel O. Suman, Ph.D., professor of marine affairs at the University of Miami will present Bocas del Toro, Panama: Experiences in Coastal Management. Patricia Miloslavish, Ph.D., professor of environmental studies, Simon Bolivar University in Venzuela, will present Census of Marine Life in the Caribbean: A Regional Commitment in a Biodiversity Program. , interim vice chancellor for academic affairs, will speak in the Steidinger Auditorium at 5 p.m. It's part of the Energy and Environment Lecture Series. "What Citizens Should Know about our Global Energy Future" is free and open to the public.

Pooling Around for USF St. Petersburg Aquatics - (Date changed) The first fundraiser for aquatic programs at USFSP. This will be a day full of fun, prizes and food, from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. at the pool. The event is open to all interested swimmers ages 10 and up. Donations accepted as a specific amount or as an amount donated per lap. The event will also need volunteers for check-in/registration, lap counters and food distribution. Coastal Restoration Project - From 9 a.m. - noon at the Clam Bayou Marine Education Center. Volunteers needed to restore and maintain a native coastal ecosystem that will serve as a demonstration garden for native plants and Florida friendly landscape design.
